We need to recognize that by seeking worth and security in accomplishments, in things or comfort, or in others’ opinions of us, we will always fall short. None of these things can be counted on. All of these can be taken away from us in an instant

Hope is what allows us to look to the future, and to experience discomfort in the present in order to gain something better down the road

Do you struggle with pride? Allow him to build your faith. Do you struggle with sensuality? Allow him to develop hope in you. Do you struggle with people pleasing? Allow him to convince you of his unconditional love

When I take the time to analyze why I am doing a certain activity, I often find that I am motivated by pride (doing things because they are personal goals and I want to accomplish them for my glory), or sensuality (doing what I feel like because it’s more comfortable or easier), or the opinions of others (doing things that God doesn’t expect of me so that people will think more highly of me).

Sensuality is living for today, for the moment

our propensity to be motivated by the opinions of others

Instead of seeking security and value in God, we look for other people to measure our worth
