Maintain a calm and gentle, peaceful speech,
With kindness as the goal that you should reach;
Avoid all anger, quarrels, and fierce debate,
While honoring the ones who pass the gate.
Do not neglect the Shraddha or the rite,
Of Tarpan offered in the morning light;
With custom guiding you from day to day,
To keep the debts of ancestors away.
Treat every crumb of food with reverence deep,
So that no waste will make the household weep;
The offerings to ancestors are grand,
And must be handled with a steady hand.
Yet scriptures teach that spirit matters most,
Beyond the prohibitions we can boast;
With gratitude and charity combined,
A higher form of worship we will find.
Feed those in need and help the creatures round,
Where loving acts and virtues can abound;
Speak truthfully and keep the heart sincere,
To make the memory of the elders dear.
Read daily texts like chapter fifteen clear,
And Vishnu Sahasranama, held so dear;
With Bhagwat Puran and Garuda too,
To guide the seeker in what they should do.
A simple prayer to Hari, pure and bright,
With Tarpan and charity to crown the rite;
Completes the full observance day by day,
For householders who walk the holy way.
