<!doctype html public «-//w3c//dtd html 4.0 transitional//en»> http-equiv=content-type> This study examines the categories of research on empires (integration from a balance between unity and difference) in the perspective of a new political history and applies it to study the German nation under the Holy Roman Empire. The findings are surprising, both with regard to the history of the Holy Roman Empire and for empire research in general, which has, until now, tended to factor out the Holy Roman Empire.
