<!doctype html public «-//w3c//dtd html 4.0 transitional//en»> http-equiv=content-type> Using Hebrew, Greek, Syriac, and Latin textual references, this study develops a model for the origins of 1 Kings 11–14. Its methodological innovation is to consider multiple traditions and combine them in the analysis. The stories of the end of the great kingdom and the founding of the northern kingdom are shown to be a reservoir of narratives that critically address various aspects of political and religious life.
