To-morrow and To-morrow

The novel opens with the announcement of the end of WW1 given to the central character (who narrates this story in the first person) as a top-secret document the evening before. On walking into his office at work he finds his superior, Captain Hornbeck, destroying documents, and scarcely able to believe the news himself.
