Martin G. Ljungqvist is a Swedish author and engineer. He writes techno-thrillers centred on mathematics, cryptography and digital crime. He is best known for his debut novel Rubinkretsen (2021), published in English as The Ruby Circuit (2026).
Martin Ljungqvist was born in 1979 in Nynäshamn, Sweden. He studied civil engineering at Linköping University, graduating in 2005. He went on to complete postgraduate research training and has worked in the technology industry ever since. Before turning to novels, he published short fiction in several Swedish magazines, including a short story in the journal DAST.
Rubinkretsen was published in 2021 by Swedish publisher Ekström & Garay. The novel draws directly on Ljungqvist's engineering background. He has said the idea came to him after reading a Dan Brown novel alongside a book on mathematics. A professor of mathematics at Linköping University reviewed the technical sections of the manuscript. The book was listed by Kapprakt among the year's notable thriller debuts.
The Ruby Circuit (2026) is the English-language edition of that novel. It follows IT forensics officer Roger Tross, who is drawn into what becomes the largest fraud case in Swedish history. Large sums of money vanish from major companies and wealthy individuals.
The trail leads Tross to mathematician Julia Amborn, and together they explore one of the world's most famous unsolved mathematical problems in order to stop a series of sophisticated cyberattacks threatening to bring down modern society. The book has been described as a thoughtful thriller about mathematics, technology and encryption.
Martin G. Ljungqvist lives in Lund, in southern Sweden. Outside of writing, he plays piano in an indie band.
