Lorraine Cooney

Lorraine Cooney is an Irish dietitian specializing in gut health, known for her contributions to dietetics and nutrition. Her recent book, Why You Can't Go (2024), discusses Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Lorraine Cooney was born in Ireland and pursued her education in nutrition and dietetics across multiple institutions. She obtained a BSc (Hons) in Human Nutrition with a Diploma in Industrial Studies from the University of Ulster, Coleraine. She then earned an MSc in Dietetics from Glasgow Caledonian University. Lorraine completed a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Hypnosis & Related Techniques at Birmingham City University.

With over 20 years of experience in nutrition and dietetics, Lorraine leads the Gut Health Clinic at Dublin's Blackrock Clinic. Here, she offers comprehensive care and innovative approaches to optimize digestive wellness. Lorraine is also qualified to provide gut-directed hypnotherapy through the newly launched Diet-Hypno Programme for IBS patients.

Lorraine co-authored the low-FODMAP cookbook Gut Feeling, which has been well-received for its practical dietary solutions for gut issues. She also runs Guttastic, a blog with evidence-based advice on gut health.

In Why You Can't Go (2024), Lorraine explores the complexities of chronic constipation and its related symptoms, such as bloating and gas. Drawing from her extensive clinical experience and scientific research, Lorraine offers actionable strategies to help individuals find relief from constipation and improve their overall gut health.
