Susanne Lykke

Susanne Lykke Michelsen is a Danish author known for her versatility in writing across genres for adults and children. Best known for her Havets Perle fantasy series, Lykke has also published biographical novels, crime novels and educational works. Her contribution to Danish literature was recognised in 2021 with the Marisa Søbys Literature Award for "a writer who has made a difference".

Susanne Lykke was born in Hørsholm, Denmark. She spent her early years in Måløv before moving to Ølstykke. Originally trained as an acupuncturist, Lykke turned to writing after a life-changing diagnosis of multiple sclerosis and personal challenges.

Her first book, Mærket — af psykopatens spind (2016), was a deeply personal biographical novel about overcoming abuse. The book's success led to public speaking engagements and a therapeutic writing course for survivors of domestic violence.

Lykke's literary career gained momentum with the publication of Pige på mission (2019), a war novel, and Kys og kaos (2020). This young adult novel became a central part of her literacy workshops for schoolchildren. With the support of the Egedal Arts Council, she visited 16 schools, held workshops and encouraged students to write their own endings to her books. The initiative culminated in a celebration with contributions from 90 young participants.

Her foray into fantasy began with Havets Perle: Nedstigning (2020), the first in a series that captivates readers with its imaginative underwater world. The sequel, Første generation (2022), further established her reputation in the genre. In addition to her fiction, Lykke published the practical guide E-bog og lydbog — lær at udgive digitalt (2020.

Susanne Lykke is also known for her collaborative projects, including the anthology Inderst inde (2022), which involved 28 authors and three editors. She has significantly contributed to the Danish literary community, co-founding the Egedal Bogfest and launching the podcast SKRIVEtanterne.

In 2024, she launched Fantasy for evigt, a podcast that explores the genre's enduring appeal.
