Maggie Stiefvater

Maggie Stiefvater is a New York Times bestselling author of young adult fiction. She is a remarkably prolific writer (by age 18, she had written 30 novels) and is best known for a series of books, The Shiver Trilogy, The Raven Cycle, and The Scorpio Races.

Maggie Stiefvater holds a Bachelor's in History from the University of Mary Washington. Before becoming a full-time writer, she was a waitress, a calligraphy instructor, and a technical editor.

Stiefvater mentioned that Susan Cooper and Diana Wynne Jones greatly impacted her work.

"I love Diana Wynne Jones' ability to combine humor and real magic, but I wouldn't want to have written her books," the novelist told the Guardian.

Her The Shiver trilogy spent over 40 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list. Critics say Stiefvater brings a rare lyricism to her texts, that deepens her graceful handling of problematic subjects.

In 2010, Maggie Stiefvater received the Michael J. Printz Honor Award, the highest award a work of Young Adult fiction can receive.

Stiefvater also plays several musical instruments and makes art in several media.

Maggie Stiefvater lives in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia with her family.
